Betrice Gardner
Who she is​
Betrice was raised in North Carolina most of her life and has resided in Charlotte for over 25 years.  She has a son and is married.  She holds an MBA and BS in Computer Science.  She’s a Vendor Relationship Manager in HR IT.   She enjoys spending time with family and friends, sewing, a good movie and traveling and serving in church and the community.  

​Why she is serving​
There is no better way to demonstrate to my child how important school is by being actively involved.  Education is the foundation to all things in life.  Serving in the PTA to me demonstrates the value and care for my child’s education and all children at DJV Academy of Technology. ​

What she hopes to accomplish​
PTA Excellence!  Getting our local PTA organized, productive, and in good standing.  No longer reactive but proactive in building our partnerships and advocating for our students and teachers.  Growing our membership with a team that continues to work together no matter what challenges we face.  We can overcome anything together.
Vice-President
Nia McAdoo
Who she is​
A native of Buffalo, New York Nia has lived in Charlotte since 2005.  She and her husband are the proud parents of Morrison who is a Kindergartner here at DJV.  Nia holds a MBA in Higher Education Administration and owns a Charlotte based company that provides print services to the K-12 and collegiate market.  In her spare time, she loves to spend time with her family and travels.​

Why she is serving​
As a young child her mother instilled the importance of giving back by serving the community and it's in this spirit that Nia chose to run for a position on the board.  "I am passionate about my child's education and it's important that we attempt to level the playing field in public education so that all children have opportunities to thrive." she said.​

What she hopes to accomplish​
She hopes to work with the board to set a strong foundation for the PTA.  Going forward formalizing procedures and building on what makes the DJV community unique and cohesive will be a top priority.  She believes that it will be important to create and implement strong programming and initiatives in order to see our PTA thrive.
Treasurer
Candice Thompson
Who she is​
Candice is a native New Yorker and has been living in Charlotte for 6 years. She has two daughters who accompany most of her time. Kyla who is 13 and Kara 6 years of age who is a student here at DJV. She’s an Accountant at Carolinas Healthcare Systems and a recent MBA graduate. In her spare time, she tries to catch a spin class, coupons and volunteers.  She also leads a Daisy Girl Scout Troop where Kara is a member.

Why she is serving​
Her experience as a parent has taught her that being a part of her children’s educational encompass helps them to succeed. When her children witness her volunteerism; it ignites pride and excitement in them which transitions into academic success.​

What she hopes to accomplish​
​She is aware of the learning journey being the Treasurer will represent. However, she hopes to be a part of building a solid foundation and helping to create a legacy for the PTA here at DJV. She is sure hard work and some setbacks will occur.  However, she wants to look back in June and be able to say the DJV PTA remembered it was always about “the children” and they did the best job they could possibly do to achieve success.
